NFL preseason started Thursday, August 1. On Saturday the Raiders faced the Los Angeles Rams. A local organization called Nevada Raider Nation: Carson City Chapter held a barbecue, inviting new and existing members to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, specialty drinks, and the preseason football game.
The organization started up last year during football season, and organizers say they're looking for more members. The goal is to unite new and old Raiders fans.
Chris Osborne the President of the club said, "All we're trying to do is just unite Raiders fans. You know, it's a great atmosphere, great people, you know, great place to watch the game."
Organizers say 30 percent of membership fees go back to the community; the money is donated to veterans, law enforcement, and fire fighters.
Fans are also hoping to share their excitement and unite before the Oakland Raiders move to Las Vegas, Nevada. The team announced that the new stadium will be called Allegiant Stadium, a name that comes from the Las Vegas based airline.
Officials say work on the $2 Billion facility is about 60 percent complete. They say construction is on schedule and on budget. The Raiders are not slated to move to Nevada until the 2020 football season and the teams stadium in Las Vegas is scheduled to open in 2020 as well. Once Allegiant Stadium opens, it will be the newest stadium in America.
