Start your engines. Hot August Nights started on Monday in Virginia City.  Four hundred cars were expected in the historic city alone during opening weekend.  Some businesses are already reaping the benefits of having this event in the area. The Hotel business is in high gear right now. Several casino hotels told 2 News they are already sold out for both this weekend and the next.

The front desk of the Silver Legacy Casino's Hotel was extremely busy on Friday. The lobby was packed with visitors wanting to check into their rooms. And the rest of The Row's hotels, Circus Circus and the El Dorado, are seeing that same amount of business.  When you're sold out at 3 properties, you absolutely have an opportunity to have everyone here for a couple days. So we look forward to having 100 percent occupancy, said The Row executive director Tony Marini.

The car show event Hot August Nights runs through two weekends. Bringing thousands of visitors to the area. With car participants, people coming to look at the cars, the classic car auction, and everything that goes along with the show, we have an influx of northern California people coming to town, said Marini.

Circus Circus made a deal to rent their west tower to the University of Nevada Reno. That deal creates housing for the students displaced by the explosions that damaged Argenta and Nye halls. But that doesn't affect the number of rooms available right now. Everything is fine at Circus Circus. Those rooms are able to rent right now. We'll get prepared after Hot August Nights to turn that tower into dorm rooms, said Marini.

People should expect to pay a little extra to rent rooms during this time. "We are very busy and our rooms are in high demand. So our rates tend to be higher during these busy weekends.  But people that do come for the classic car show understand what the rates are. And they try to book if not a year in advance, 6 to 8 months in advance so they know what the rates are, said Marini.

This influx of people however is great for the economy. This event reaches into the communities, grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations. It hits everything, said Marini.

Hot August Nights events will go from Virginia City to Reno and sparks starting Monday. The official kickoff party will be at the Peppermill Casino on Monday night.
