The Nye County Sheriff's Office is releasing the name of the man found dead under a vehicle they think may have collapsed on him due to earthquakes last week in nearby Southern California.

Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said Thursday that investigators might never know for sure what caused 55-year-old Troy Ray to become pinned beneath his Jeep outside his trailer home in rural Pahrump.

They said the man was last seen alive at a gas station on July 3.

Nye County Sheriff's Office says the car appeared to have been jacked up safely and the man was working on the car at the time of his death.

They said a preliminary investigation shows the car might have fallen off the jacks during the Ridgecrest earthquakes on July 4 and 5.

Ray's death was ruled an accident resulting from asphyxia and blunt trauma.
