Lyon County officials say the Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Protection District (MVFPD) responded to a brush fire near the River Split Ranch 688, Highway 208 area.

They said four to five acres of heavy brush and grass burned and was putting off a large column of smoke that could be seen throughout Mason Valley.

They said multiple agencies helped, including Smith Valley Fire to cover calls and the Lyon County Road Department with a bull dozer to help build a line around the fire.

Lyon County officials say forward progress of the fire has been stopped.

MVFPD says crews will be on scene for several hours to mop up.

Lyon County officials say the cause of the fire was an agricultural burn that got out of control.

They said no injuries were reported and no structures are threatened.
