[RENO 1868 FC RELEASE]
San Antonio, Texas – Despite 15-year-old Cade Cowell, a San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown Player, scoring his first goal for Reno 1868 FC, the visitors couldn’t hang onto an early 2-0 lead, falling 3-2 to San Antonio FC on Saturday night at Toyota Field.
Cowell handed 1868 FC a 2-0 advantage in the 17th minute. The San Antonio FC back line gave the ball away deep in the 18-yard-box, and Cowell deposited the ball into the bottom left corner from eight yards out.
Eight minutes before that, Corey Hertzog got the scoring started on a transition from the middle of the park. Raul Mendiola clipped the ball over the top of the San Antonio FC midfield, and Hertzog one-touched over the keeper for his sixth of the season and 50th during his time in the USL.
San Antonio FC cut the lead in half right before the 45 minute mark, as headed in a cross just outside the six yard box.
Reno wasn’t able to muster a comeback late in the second half. San Antonio FC (4-7-3) outshot the visitors 13-3 in the final 45 minutes, and 19-7 for the game.
Reno 1868 FC (5-3-5) is back home on Saturday, June 15 for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff against LA Galaxy II looking to continue an undefeated home record this year (3-0-3).
