Our Someone 2 Know is the fourth generation to run a family-owned insurance company here in Washoe County.

Heuer Insurance Agency was started during The Great Depression, survived The Great Recession, and continues to thrive under its new president, Adam Heuer.

Adam and his dad, Larry met up with us at the company’s office on Vista Blvd. in Sparks.

After years of working side-by-side, father and son still talk shop. Adam Heuer is now president after taking the reins from his dad, Larry in 2016.

"I never planned to get into insurance,” admits Adam, “I tried to get as far away from it as I could." Larry says he didn't plan on working in the insurance industry either, but followed his dad, Marshall, into the business started by his grandfather in 1929, at the start of The Depression.

"My granddad's name was Clarence Heuer,” Larry says, proudly, “He started it in Reno, in the Gazette building."

Now in its 90th year, the family legacy continues - not only with the fourth generation at the helm, but with four generations being insured by Heuer.

"Most people don't appreciate insurance until they have to use insurance,” says Adam, “And the opportunity we get to be able to build families' lives back after a catastrophic event is incredibly important."

A mission that everyone at the agency takes seriously; a team that Adam considers family; “We couldn't do what we do without such a loyal staff. Most of them have been here forever" including one who's been with Heuer more than 40 years.

Together the staff also donates time, energy and money to many charities in northern Nevada.

When Adam’s not working, he spends time with his wife and young son, and really enjoys the outdoors - especially fishing with his dad; "I wouldn't wanna fish with anybody else."

The love and respect is entirely mutual.

"It's been a great relationship,” says Larry, “and I couldn't be prouder of him."
