Nevada Press Release:

The Nevada softball team moves to 26-24, 10-12 after falling to the San José State Spartans, 3-0, in the opening game of the series.

Kali Sargent got the start and pitched six complete innings only giving up two earned runs along with four strikeouts. The senior was charged the loss and moves to 6-10 on the season.

The team combined for just four hits in the contest with Sierra Mello, Sadaria McAlister, Kenzi Goins and Haley Burda all recording singles on the day. Lauren Gutierrez laid a sac bunt to move Burda over in the third inning but that was all the offense the Pack had.

The Spartans struck early with two runs in the second inning after a bases loaded walk brought a runner across home and an RBI single brought in a second. The Pack however stayed within reaching distance for the third and fourth inning before San José State plated a third, unearned run after an RBI double scored from second to go up 3-0.

Nevada just struggled to find a rhythm on offense and unfortunately fell to the Spartans 3-0 after back-to-back pop ups ended the top of the seventh.

The two meet again tomorrow, May 10 at noon PT with the Pack looking to even the series.
