UPDATE: The Reno Police Department has released new details on a shooting that happened on Monday in the 700 block of Brinkby Avenue.

They said that officers found 36-year-old Christopher Jimenez with a single gunshot wound when they arrived on scene.

They said Jimenez was taken to the hospital but he later passed away.

Reno Police says that shortly before the shooting, Jimenez had been acting out of character and was in an apparent altered state of consciousness.

They said he initiated an unprovoked and violent physical confrontation with a resident of the apartment complex who had been sitting outside his apartment.

They said another resident saw Jimenez battering the resident and attempted to intervene.

The resident intervening had a valid Concealed Carry permit and was armed with a handgun.

Reno Police said Jimenez stopped his first attack and rushed the resident trying to intervene.

They said despite the resident retreating and repeatedly telling Jimenez to stop, Jimenez began to attack them, at which point the resident shot Jimenez.

Both of the battered residents had injuries but were not taken to the hospital.

Reno Police says the shooting appears to be justified.

Anyone with any information on the case is urged to contact the Reno Police Department or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
