Washoe County Manager John Slaughter will officially retire this Friday after more than 32 years of service. On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners thanked him with an official proclamation.

Slaughter announced his retirement in April.

“Leaving Washoe County is not a decision I come to lightly,” Slaughter said. “This decision comes only after much thought and many discussions with my family. I have come to recognize that time spent with family is not indefinite and after more than 32 years with this great organization, I look forward to devoting time to family and friends.”

Washoe County says Slaughter spent his entire professional career with the county and for the last five years, served as the county's top executive as County Manager. He was appointed by the Board of County Commissioner in November of 2013.
