16-year-old Jacob Newman says he was just walking to store around 4 PM on Friday afternoon when he was hit by an SUV. He says the injuries he suffered were only minor scrapes and bruises, but he was shook up. The boy’s family as well as Sparks Police, are now looking for information. Secret Witness is now offering $500 for information leading to an arrest.

Shawn Newman says now more than ever, he's aware of how dangerous this curve on the Wedekind Road is for his son.  “I love him. And I don't want to see him hurt or in a hospital or dead,” said Newman.

His son Jacob walks down Wedekind Road all the time. But Friday afternoon, he was hit just before he made it to the corner of Wedekind and Farrel Ross Drive. “It kind of felt like it was a thud against me. And then I was on the ground,” said the teenager. Jacob says he believes he was sideswiped by an SUV.  “They could have been eating food. They could have been texting. They could have been coming around the corner too fast,” said Jacob Newman.  He looked up, but not in time to catch the vehicle's plate. “It looked like an import vehicle SUV with a shiny black coat of paint.” said Jacob.

The Newmans are looking for witnesses who may have information on what happened. “A nice old couple stopped and asked if I was Ok. They checked to see if I was alright and gave me advice. Then they left and saw if they could catch up with him,” said Jacob Newman.

In the meantime, Shawn and Jacob Newman believe that the lack of sidewalks along Wedekind make the stretch of road more dangerous for those who travel along it’s path. “Jacob has been clipped by a car. I plan on helping him go to the city council or Washoe County ask them to put a sidewalk out here,” said Shawn Newman of his son.
