The University of Nevada's Tau Kappa Epilson says it has started its punishment after school officials learned of a membership book containing songs that promoted violence.

As a result, TKE officially received three years of probation on Wednesday along with one year of no rushing events. TKE must also hold education events on campus.

Last month, UNR placed TKE on an interim suspension citing the published songs.

Dean of Students Kimberly Thomas says the school learned of the membership book in October.

Thomas says shortly after learning of the songs, TKE’s national chapter suspended UNR’s Pi Iota Chapter’s activities and placed the chapter on an interim suspension pending an investigation.

“The Office of Student Conduct issued a Notice of Investigation to the chapter regarding allegations that the chapter encourages sexual harassment and/or sexual assault, hazing, and illegal alcohol and drug use within the chapter.  The Office of Student Conduct is currently investigating the chapter’s activities and will determine if the chapter violated the 2018 University Relationship Agreement, the University Student Code of Conduct, and/or the University policy on sexual harassment.“

Thomas also says UNR’s Office of Student Conduct will post findings.
