The Reno Fire Department reports they responded to a structure fire in the 1200 block of East 4th Street a little after 8 p.m. on Friday night.

They said an explosion set off a small fire inside a unit at the Hi Ho Motor Lodge.

Reno Fire said bystanders tried putting the flames out with an extinguisher until they arrived on scene. Reno Fire put the fire out shortly afterward.

They said a single occupant was in the unit when the explosion happened. That person was treated on scene and then transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

There were no road closures at the time of the incident.

Reno Fire says the building was compromised since the explosion blew out the windows, but the damage was contained to the one unit. Some nearby cars were damaged as well in the blast.
