The winners for this year's Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off were announced Monday afternoon! 

Twenty-three rib cookers competed in this year's contest, at Victorian Square in Sparks. 

This year's winners for judge's choice: Montana Q Bar-B-Que House, Back Forty for people's choice ribs and Uncle Bub's won for best sauce.

Monday's win marks the first championship for Montana Q Bar-B-Que House owner, Tom Moua, who said, “We did great with fourth place and People’s Choice a couple of years ago, fell off a little last year, but now this is the best!”

Both the People’s Choice winner and Best Sauce winner repeated wins from last year’s competition, Back Forty Texas Barbecue for People’s Choice and Uncle Bub’s for Best Sauce.

The top five, People’s Choice and Best Sauce winners for 2018 are:

  • First place: Montana Q Bar-B-Que, from Frenchtown, MT, $10,000
  • Second place: Checkered Pig, from Martinsville, VA, $5,000
  • Third place: Just North of Memphis from Clearwater, MN, $2,000
  • Fourth Place: Blazin’ Bronco BBQ, from Port St. Lucie, FL, $1,000
  • Fifth Place: Aussom Aussie, from Pittsburgh, PA, $500

People’s Choice Award went to: Back Forty Texas Barbecue, from, Pleasant Hill, CA, $500
Best Sauce: Uncle Bubs, from Westmont, IL $500.

The 31st annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28 through Monday, September 2, 2019. 

Last year's winners were Chicago BBQ for judge's choice, Back Forty for people's choice ribs, and Uncle Bub's won for sauce.
