The goals and rain came in droves Sunday afternoon as Reno 1868 FC held on for a 3-3 draw against Swope Park Rangers.

Reno halted a two-game skid in a rain-soaked contest against a tough playoff contender.

Swope Park struck first in the seventh minute as Tyler Blackwood put the hosts up 1-0 off a Hadji Barry assist.

Reno would answer back five minutes later as leading scorer Brian Brown netted his 10th goal of the season to make it 1-1 off a Brent Richards assist inside the box.

Brown became the third player in Reno 1868 FC history to score 10+ goals in a single season, joining Dane Kelly (18, 2017) and Antoine Hoppenot (12, 2017).

Blackwood would get his brace and Swope Park entered halftime up 2-1 after his goal in the 29th minute.

After the break, it was all Reno as Brown too capped off a brace scoring in the 64th minute off a Zach Carroll assist. Brown’s 11th goal of the season evened up the contest 2-2.

Midfielder Jerry van Ewijk put Reno up 3-2 in the 82nd minute off an Antoine Hoppenot assist. The goal was van Ewijk’s sixth of the season, putting him two away from his current USL-high (eight, 2017).

Following van Ewijk’s goal, it looked as if Reno was going to leave Kansas City with three points.

But it wasn’t meant to be as Hadji Barry tied up the match in stoppage time (90’ +3) off a Tyler Blackwood assist, putting an end to the back-and-forth affair.

With the draw, Reno (10-5-8, 38 pts) remains in sixth place in the Western Conference standings ahead of its rivalry matchup against Sacramento Republic FC slated for 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Greater Nevada Field.
