Junior linebacker Gabriel Sewell has been named to the watch list for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award, the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced on Thursday.

Sewell is one of 50 players from around the nation to earn a spot on the award watch list, which is presented annually to the most outstanding Polynesian college football player that epitomizes great ability and integrity. Sewell is one of 13 to be selected from the Mountain West. 

In his second season with the Wolf Pack in 2017, Sewell totaled 59 tackles on the year while starting in 11 of Nevada’s 12 contests. Of his 59 stops, 35 were solo and included 3.0 tackles for loss. Sewell also added two fumble recoveries on the year. In his two seasons with Nevada he has racked up 137 tackles and 8.5 TFL.

The winner of the 2018 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award will be announced on Dec. 14. Five finalists will be unveiled on Dec. 5. The presentation of the award will be held during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Celebration Dinner and they will also be recognized at halftime of the Polynesian Bowl at Aloha Stadium.
