Lately groundbreaking ceremonies for new apartments in the City of Sparks have been following each other one after the next.

"Across the street we have several hundred units, right on the marina we have several hundred units, around the garage in downtown sparks we have another 600 units, its going like crazy,” says Sparks City Councilman Ron Smith

The latest groundbreaking took place on Wednesday for a luxury apartment complex called Azure. The facility will be located just a short walk from the Sparks Marina and Outlets at Legends.

"Shopping, dining, easy access to free way, close proximity to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, so a lot of things going for this property,” says Oakmont Properties CEO Ryan Ashley.

In addition to all the residential growth happening near Legends, there's nearly just as much commercial growth.

“We've got a casino going here, we've got restaurants, we’ve got the IMAX theater, we've got everything, if you're living here you don't have to walk far,” says Smith.

In fact, you don't even have to be living down at Legends to be walking distance from all the businesses since new hotels are popping up around the outlets as well.

"We especially like our guests to be close to a lot of amenities, we found most of our guests, especially during the week, are business travelers,” says Joe Blagg, Development Manager with Tharaldson Hospitality.

The Hampton Inn & Suites has been open and operating for a few months now and the Residence Inn will be open by September. In addition, Jersey Mike’s just opened its doors, while the Habit Burger and other restaurants will be joining the Legends lineup later in 2018.

“It's a great master plan development and it’s been a part of the Sparks growth in that market,” says Blagg.

Despite all the forward progress, even city officials say the growth isn't happening fast enough, especially with all the new jobs moving into the market.

The casino coming to Legends will be called the Legends Bay Casino and will be 77,000 square feet in size, but it's still in early stages of the building permit process. Sparks city officials say there are also plans to build three new restaurants around the Sparks Marina.
