Body Found in Truckee River in Downtown Reno
Authorities are investigating a body found in the Truckee River just east of the Virginia Street Bridge in downtown Reno.
A passerby discovered a man's body in the Truckee River Tuesday morning near the Virginia Street Bridge.
Police believe they have his identity, but are waiting to notify family members before releasing that information.
One investigator told us the body appears to have been in the water for at least 72 hours.
After forensic teams photographed the scene, rescuers went in to recover the body using inflatable boats. One person cut some fishing line that was attached to the body. Some credit cards and jewelry were taken from the river nearby as well.
While police are treating the case as a possible homicide, it's too early to determine the cause of death.
Officials took the body away pending an autopsy, scheduled for Wednesday. They'll also order toxicology reports, the results of which aren't expected for three months.
