Authorities say they have arrested a man on homicide and arson charges in Plumas County.

Deputies say fire crews responded to an early morning fire on Thursday in Blairsden, California. The Eastern Plumas Fire Department says they rescued one person from the garage area, but a second person was still inside the bedroom.

Deputies say the person who was rescued told them the cause of the fire was arson and that the person responsible was a temporary employee hired to work at the home.

At the same time, CHP found a man walking on Highway 89, near the fire. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area and found Nicholas Alexander Phillips.

Phillips was eventually booked into the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The name of the victim hasn’t been released.
