University of Nevada senior Caleb Martin is one of five finalists for the 2019 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.   

Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor in its fifth year recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men’s college basketball. A national committee comprising top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just five.

The five finalists for the 2019 Julius Erving Award are Caleb Martin (Nevada), Rui Hachimura (Gonzaga), Marial Shayok (Iowa State), Admiral Schofield (Tennessee) and De’Andre Hunter (Virginia). Fans are encouraged to visit www.HoophallAwards.com to cast their votes March 8-29.

Martin, from Mocksville, N.C. has helped the 17th ranked Wolf Pack to a 27-3 record this season and a 14-3 record in the Mountain West. He tops the team averaging 19.4 points per game. The 6-7 senior is also grabbing 5.1 rebounds, dishes out 2.8 assists, averages 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.

Martin has scored in double figures in 28 games this season and has a team-high 17 games of 20 or more points which includes two games of 30 or more points. In the Pack’s win at Utah he scored a career-high 33 points and in the home game against Boise State had 30 points. In 14 games he has led the Pack in scoring and 10 times posted a game high.

Currently he ranks 18th at Nevada with 1,263 points and has scored 1,814 points in his 135 college games that includes his time at North Carolina State.  His career average is 13.4 points per game.

Martin became the Pack’s first preseason AP and EPSN All-America selection. Three times this season he has captured the MW Player of the Week honors. The 2017-18 MW Player of the Year he was the preseason pick to earn the honor again this season. He has been named to the NABC, Wooden, Oscar Robertson Trophy, Naismith and Lute Olson Award watch lists.
