The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released new details about a fatal crash that happened on February 8 on Highway 50, near the intersection with Topaz Street in Silver Springs.

They said around 6 p.m., a preliminary investigation shows that a white 2006 Ford F-350 pickup was traveling southbound on Topaz Street approaching the intersection with US 50. NHP says a silver 2003 Infiniti M45 sedan was traveling eastbound on US 50, also approaching the intersection.

NHP says the driver of the Ford F-350 failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection, causing the front of the Infiniti sedan to strike the pickup.

The vehicles came to rest in the eastbound travel land and outside shoulder.

NHP says both drivers were transported via CareFlight to Renown Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The drive of the Infiniti sedan, 40-year-old Michael Gazard of Silver Springs, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

NHP says the eastbound travel lane was closed at the time of the crash and traffic was rerouted until the scene was cleared around 11:25 p.m.

They said impairment is suspected in this crash.

NHP is seeking additional witnesses to the incident. Anyone with any information is urged to contact Trooper Aimee Chesebrough of the NHP Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (MIRT) at (775) 687-9649.
