“Oh, the thinks you can think!”

Seussical the Musical, Jr. opens Friday at 7 p.m. at Damonte Ranch High School.

Dozens of kids – ranging in age from six to 18 – make up the cast. This is the first all-youth production for Sierra School of Performing Arts (SSPA).

The non-profit school has performed the classics over the last 14 years, but the artistic director of SSPA says with all the talent in town, this junior program offers something special.

"It's important because it gives kids more of an opportunity to get on stage in a quasi-professional environment,” explains Janet Lazarus. “We have very high standards. All of our teachers and directors are professionals. We really try to put on quality production."

Seussical Jr. is fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, this show is great for the entire family. It is the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie LaBird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Seussical Jr. plays December 7th at 7:00 p.m., and December 8th at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Damonte Ranch High School Theater in Reno. Tickets are available at www.SierraSchoolofPerformingArts.org.  Tickets are $10 for children three to 12 and seniors 65+, and $12 for teens and adults.
