One incredible right-footed shot was the difference Saturday night as Reno 1868 FC fell 1-0 to Saint Louis FC on the road in a crucial USL Western Conference showdown.

The loss allowed Saint Louis to sweep the regular season series and put Reno in an interesting spot as the season nears its climax.

With the loss, Reno dropped from seventh to eighth in the West, right on the border of the playoff cutoff line.

Saturday night began in frustrating fashion as Reno could barely get set in Saint Louis’ end of the pitch. Saint Louis consistently closed defensively on nearly every Reno counter and possession.

Leading scorer Kyle Greig notched his 12th goal of the season and put Saint Louis up 1-0 in the 27th minute off a right-footed strike from inside the box.

Reno’s first half woes only continued as the club failed to manage to get a shot off.

Reno’s attempt at a comeback became increasingly difficult in the 52nd minute when defender Jordan Murrell was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the match.

Reno played the remaining 42 minutes down a man, but did manage to find more room for shots.

Reno managed six shots (two on target) in the second half with the best chance coming off a Brian Brown header that was sent back by the fingertips of Saint Louis goalkeeper Tomas Gomez in the 47th minute.

Reno would not have had chances to equalize without the amazing work in goal by its own goalkeeper, JT Marcinkowski, who equaled his career-high for saves in a single match (7).

Reno 1868 FC now returns home Saturday, Sept. 15 to face LA Galaxy II on “Noche Latina” presented by Toro Law.

Kickoff for that match is set for 6:45 p.m.

Tickets for that match and a jam-packed September schedule at Greater Nevada Field can be purchased at or at the Greater Nevada Field ticket office.
