Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team has determined not to file charges following an extensive investigation of a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist and a Washoe County School District bus.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 27th.
Deputies say the motorcycle was heading west on La Posada Drive just west of the Rockwell Boulevard roundabout when it struck a school bus that was making a left turn from a business driveway to the eastbound lane of La Posada Drive.
Authorities say 68-year-old Robert Martin died on scene.
The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted a month-long investigation which included a re-enactment of the accident along with witness interviews and accident scene diagrams.
The investigation concluded that, based on conditions, neither driver was able to see the other in time to take evasive action. Based on that conclusion, investigators are requesting that no charges be filed.
The bus driver had finished dropping off children and was heading to finish their route when the crash happened.
The Washoe County School District previously released this statement:
The Washoe County School District is cooperating with the investigation into today’s accident involving a school bus and a motorcyclist.
Per protocol, the bus driver has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of this investigation.
