The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the motorcycle rider who died after colliding with a school bus early Monday morning.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the motorcycle rider who died after colliding with a WCSD school bus early Monday morning.
Authorities say 68-year-old Robert Martin of Sparks died around 8:30 a.m.
The school bus was turning left onto La Posada Drive east of Pyramid Highway when the motorcyclist hit the bus. Martin died on scene.
The driver of the school bus wasn't hurt and there were no children on board.
While deputies are investigating who was at fault they want drivers to take precautions around school buses.
"They pull out and they have no control over the bus 40-50 feet they're pulling, pushing through the streets so you just need to be cautious in roundabouts and coming up on blind curves,” says Sgt. Frank Eubanks, Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
The bus driver had finished dropping off children and was heading to finish their route when the crash happened.
The Washoe County School District released this statement:
The Washoe County School District is cooperating with the investigation into today’s accident involving a school bus and a motorcyclist.
Per protocol, the bus driver has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of this investigation.
