Aces Release

The Reno Aces won in walk-off fashion in game two with the Salt Lake Bees by a score of 8-7. Ildemaro Vargas led the Aces offensively going a perfect 4-for-4 with four singles and a base on balls. Starting pitcher Joel Payamps went just 4.2 innings, striking out four Salt Lake batters, and allowed six earned runs on seven hits. The Reno bullpen would come to the rescue, going 4.1 innings and limiting the Salt Lake offense to just two hits. The come-from-behind win improves the Aces to a record of 64-60, which places Reno 7.0 games back of the first place Fresno Grizzlies.

Reno and Salt Lake had an offensive explosion in the early innings of tonight's ballgame. Jose Fernandez and Bo Way belted two RBI doubles, and Jared Walsh homered to help Salt Lake jump out to the early 6-0 lead. Reno responded with five runs of their own, two of which came on a Deven Marrero triple to close their deficit to 6-5. After the early offensive explosion, both teams locked in pitchers dual with both bullpens dominating the opposing hitters. The Bees extended their lead to 7-5 via a Jared Walsh homer to deep center field. Fueled by a sellout crowd at Greater Nevada Field, the Aces offense came alive in the final inning of play. Vargas got the inning started with his fourth single of the evening. Juniel Querecuto drew a four-pitch walk to bring up 2018 Pacific Coast Leauge All-Star Socrates Brito. Brito ripped a ball down the right-field line to score Vargas and put both him and Querecuto into scoring position. Querecuto scored on a wild pitch to tie things up seven. Kevin Cron, with a 2-1 count, hit a weak ground ball to third base allowing the speedy Socrates Brito to score.

Tonight, Kevin Cron stepped to the plate with one out and the speedy Socrates Brito at third base. Cron hit a weak ground ball to the third baseman who attempted to beat Brito. The throw came in late and was mishandled by Salt Lake Catcher Jose Briceno.
