The Nevada Department of Safety in Las Vegas reports a Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) vehicle was struck while at a traffic stop on Monday.

Around 5 p.m., an NHP trooper was  stopped on US 95 northbound at Summerlin Parkway at the northbound off ramp in Las Vegas when the trooper began to open his door. An orange Chevy Cobalt failed to maintain its travel land and drove into the right shoulder, striking the trooper's driver's side door. The driver of the Chevy did not stop and continued northbound.

NHP received an anonymous tip the next day to locate the vehicle and driver of the Chevy. The driver was issued citations for driving without a license, hit and run, property damage and failure to stop and render aid, all of which are misdemeanors.

The crash remains under investigation.
