UPDATE: The suspect of the officer-involved shooting on Wednesday has been identified.

Joseph Richards was medically released from the hospital and booked into Washoe County Jail after he suffered non-life threatening injuries when he pulled a knife on an officer.

He is being charged with sexual assault of a minor, lewdness with a minor and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.

The Reno Police Department has released more details on Wednesday night's officer-involved shooting at Roberts Street and Lester Avenue.

Reno Police say detectives had responded to this address to arrest a suspect for child sexual assault related to a Sparks Police Department investigation. While on scene, detectives contacted the male suspect they were looking for.

Police say when the suspect charged at the officer with a knife, the unidentified officer then shot the suspect.

Police say the suspect was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

No officers or other citizens were injured.

The Sparks detective involved was placed on routine administrative leave.

The Reno Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are conducting the investigation in accordance with the regional Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) protocol. The Reno Police Department is the lead agency.
