Communities In Schools of Western Nevada are collecting school supplies for children in need this Friday. Donations can be delivered at the Sam's Club parking lot on Kietzke Lane from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Channel 2 will also be there helping collect donations.

We'll will be collecting school supplies, hygiene products and uniforms for students K-12 for six schools throughout Washoe County.

Items accepted will be:

•    Backpacks for all ages
•    Mechanical pencils/pens
•    Markers/crayons/colored pencils
•    Glue sticks/scissors/rulers
•    Index cards/pocket folders/dividers
•    Erasers/pencil sharpeners/pencil cases
•    Tissues/dry erase markers
•    Athletic shoes of all sizes and colors
•    New socks & underwear
•    Alarm clocks
•    Binders
•    Spiral & composition notebooks
•    Wide-ruled or college-ruled paper
•    Gift cards
•    Middle school uniforms (black or khaki pants, royal blue, gray, or forest green shirts).

The collection drive is to help ease the financial burden put on low-income students and their families as well as teachers and staff who often spend their own money on resources they need for their students each year.

"We're taking anything from school uniforms to monetary donations to binders to pencils so we're excited to see everybody's faces and get to meet people in our community," says CIS Program Director Salina Villejas.
