UPDATE: The Reno Ice: Jennifer M. O'Neal Community Ice Arena announced their plans to set up shop are moving forward on their Facebook page.

In 2017, Washoe County approved for negotiations with the county to secure land for the rink at the South Reno Valleys Regional Sports Complex next to the South Valleys Library.

Organizers said last year that once the Olympic-sized ice skating rink is finished it will fill a big need from the local hockey and figure skating community and could also help attract people from across the country.

The first phase should cost about $6 million, and the total project, which will include an Olympic-sized and an NHL regulation sized rink, would cost about $14 million.

It's unclear when the rink would open, but they released renderings of what the facility would look like on social media Tuesday afternoon.
