Waterfront at the Marina Opening in October
Construction on the Waterfront at the Marina is in full-swing and people could start moving in as early as October.
Crews broke ground on the Waterfront at the Marina in March, last year. Officials say construction demand in our area has delayed the project from its original June opening. Now, people are expected to start moving into the first phase of the luxury apartments in October.
"We're really creating quite a buzz," Heather Floyd, Community Director for Waterfront at the Marina said. "A lot of people are really excited to see us here and we have quite a hefty interest list."
The five-story building is on the corner of East Lincoln Way and Harbour Cove Drive. Before construction began, a deserted parking structure occupied the lot. The garage is still there but you can not see it. The apartment complex is being built with the wrap concept, surrounding the parking structure with the new building. It allows residents to park on the same floor as their apartment unit.
"It's really a win-win," Floyd said. "Our residents are really lucky to have the covered parking spaces and then of course it's not an eyesore to the community."
Floyd says these apartments are different than anything Reno and Sparks has seen. It will have 209 units and offers resort-style living with amenities like a rooftop lounge, fitness center, a year-round pool and spa, and a doggie spa.
"We will have concierge service to book your dinner reservation for you, do your dry cleaning for you," Floyd said.
Next door is an existing 24,000 mixed-use building that is also set to get a facelift to match the new apartments. Todd Prinz is the owner of Lighthouse Coffee. He says he is excited for new residents to move in.
"Instead of a destination, now we're going to have people literally in our backyard, living," Prinz said. "So its going to be really good for our business."
Lighthouse Coffee has been at the Sparks Marina location for two years and it will eventually move to the north side of the building. A new business is expected to move into the first two floors on the south end. Prinz says that will be good for the surrounding community.
"We just love this area, we love the community and that's what we're about," Prinz said. "That's what Lighthouse is about."
Floyd says the location of The Waterfront at the Marina is a great addition to the neighborhood and offers a place for people to live, work and play.
"We also have the Legends Outlets which is in walking distance," Floyd said. "So there's really a lot of shopping, entertainment. There's really a lot to do around here in addition to, of course, the marina. Paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing. I mean, we're really right here in the middle of it all. We're right off of I-80 so it's convenient for commuters."
The second phase of the apartments are expected to be completed in early 2019.
