If you wanted to use Idlewild Pool for the Fourth of July holiday, you will have to go somewhere else. The City of Reno has temporarily closing the pool for repairs.
The City says it is anticipated that the pool will resume normal operations on Thursday, July 5.
The expansion joint in the middle of the pool experienced deterioration recently. The joint is an essential component of the pool and must be repaired as soon as possible.
Staff started refilling the pool, which takes about 24 hours, on Saturday afternoon. Once the pool is full, it will take approximately three days to chemically balance and heat the water.
The closure of Idlewild Pool will impact programming at the City of Reno’s other three pools: Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center (EMNECC), Northwest Pool and Traner Pool. This will result in lap swim cancellation at EMNECC and Northwest, as well as a 90-minute delay in the start time for open swim at Traner.
Notice will be posted at each pool location and Reno.gov/ParksandRec.
