The Grand Sierra Resort says it will take over management of the Sierra Bay Aqua Driving Range starting August 1st.

The range has operated independently as part of a 25-year lease which is set to expire July 31.

GSR says it has some new plans for the driving range including short and long-term renovations and improvements.

“This driving range has been a staple in our community for years and we’re excited to continue to provide it as an amenity to our guests,” said Shannon Keel, general manager of Grand Sierra Resort. “We’ve had a good relationship with the range operator and look forward to providing guests with the same great experience they’ve come to expect at the driving range.”

In June, a paper sign at the driving range contained the message:

"To all my loyal customers, I want to say THANK YOU for the years of support. When I built this business 25 years ago, I negotiated a 25 year lease. As of July 31, that lease is over. The GSR has told me I need to be gone by then. We have many retail items that are on closeout sale.
Most of all, I want to express my appreciation to my customers for supporting my 'crazy' idea of intentionally hitting balls into water! It's been a pleasure to be a part of the Reno Community for the past 25 years. I will miss this business, and my interactions with all of you."

GSR says it will introduce a local’s appreciation special for the month of August, offering 50% off on a bucket of balls from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday thru Thursday.
