The National Weather Service in Reno is reporting several storms across northern Nevada and California, including Lake Tahoe Wednesday.

Just after 11 a.m. NWS Reno reported a severe thunderstorm near Smith Valley moving toward Yerington that could produce hail and damaging winds. There is severe thunderstorm warning up for central Lyon County up until 12:15 p.m. The storm could create winds up to 60 miles per hour and quarter size hail.

The weather service also says there may be storms in eastern parts of Lassen and Plumas counties along with the greater Lake Tahoe area and western Nevada Basin and Range. It includes Reno-Sparks, Carson City, Minden along with Pyramid Lake, Mineral County and southern Lyon County.

With strong showers reported winds of up to 40 miles per hour and hail up to one half inch are possible. If you are near Lake Tahoe get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle because lightning can strike 10 miles away from a storm.
