Winners Announced for 15th Annual CANstruction Event at Meadowood Mall

Posted: Updated:

The 15th annual CANstruction event remains underway at Meadowood Mall. While winners have already been chosen for five categories, people can still vote for 'People's Choice' through this Monday.

Jurors chose this winners:

• Most Cans:  Tomorrow’s Space Explorers, Scout Pack 46/Ardagh Group (3,780 cans)

• Structural Ingenuity:  “Freeze” Out Hunger, Kendyl Depoali Middle School

• Best Meal: Caesars Entertainment HERO Lighthouse, Harrah’s Reno

• Best Use of Labels: Solving the Hunger Puzzle, Custom Ink

• Best Original Design: Chew Chew Train on Track to End Hunger, Hug High School

The winners will be submitted to the national level of CANstruction to be judged at the international level against other cities’ award winners.

Food banks say they feed about 95,000 people per month all year-round and having this event helps them continue to feed those people.

Some teams even invited children to help them. "It was a good time to go in the schools, we had a few meetings with them and brainstorm what we wanted to do and they actually voted and choice the final product," says Mandy Holbask, a volunteer for the event.

Each vote is $1 and all of the money goes to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada where $1 helps to deliver three meals to those who need them.
