Reno Woman Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison in Child Abuse Case

Posted: Updated:

A Reno woman was sentenced this week to 20 years in prison after she was found guilty on felony child abuse charges in February.

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Lashae R. Gallon was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison on one count of Child Abuse or Neglect, with Substantial Bodily or Mental Harm.

Authorities say Reno police and Child Protective Services agents were called out to a hospital in December of 2015, regarding a 23-month-old child who had suffered a life-threatening head injury. Gallon told police the boy had fallen out of a crib the day before, and had begun having a seizure before he was taken to the hospital.

Medical tests showed the injuries were not consistent with a fall. The District Attorney's Office then filed criminal charges against Gallon. During trial, experts testified that the head injury occurred a few hours from the time the boy was taken to the hospital, and that the injury was consisted with inflicted abusive head trauma.

Gallon must serve eight years in prison before she's eligible for parole.
