University of Nevada seniors Mark Nowaczewski and Grant Fennell have been named to the Mountain West Coaches Preseason team announced today by the conference office.   Earlier this month, both were named the Perfect Game MW preseason team.  The Wolf Pack was picked to finish fourth in voting of the seven league coaches.

The Wolf Pack, under the direction of third-year head coach T.J. Bruce, open the season with a three-game series at UC Irvine this weekend, Feb. 16-18.  The Pack continues its trip to southern California at CS Fullerton on Tuesday.

A right-handed pitcher from Sparks, Nev., Nowaczewski made 15 starts in the weekend rotation for the Pack last season.  He posted a 6-6 record with a 4.89 ERA and tossed 99.1 innings.  The six wins led the team and the 99.1 innings pitched was tops in the MW.  He tossed a conference-high three complete games and earned MW Pitcher of the Week honors three times in his junior year.  His 4-1 complete game victory over intrastate rival UNLV clinched Nevada’s first Governor’s Series win.  Nowaczewski was a first-team All-MW selection in his junior season.

Fennell, who plays multiple positions for the Pack, earned the honor as an outfielder.  The San Diego product led the team with a .328 batting average and a .405 on base percentage.  His .456 slugging percentage, 34 runs scored, 24 RBI and 13 doubles were second best on the team.  He was third on the team with 59 hits and four with 82 total bases.   As a junior he earned second-team All-MW honors as a utility player.

The Pack are predicted to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll after receiving 22 votes, two back of Fresno State.  New Mexico was picked to repeat in 2018 followed by San Diego State.
