Get Emergency Notifications From Douglas County

Posted: Updated:

You can now get emergency alerts sent to your phone if you live in Douglas County.

Douglas County Emergency Management, and 911 Emergency Services as the lead, in cooperation with the Nevada Quad Counties (Storey, Lyon, Carson City and Douglas) has received Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approval and credentials to access the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).

The county says it can now alert and warn residents through commercial television and radio broadcasts, along with the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) program. The WEA does not require any sign-up or registration, it’s already active on your smartphone.  This enables local emergency officials to send warning messages to those either directly or potential directly impacted by an incident, such as wildland fire, flood or missing children through Amber Alerts.

Visit for information on this system and to register your cell phone.
