Local Business Offers Meal Prep Tips and Tricks

Posted: Updated:

We're over a week into the new year and some folks are still sticking to their resolutions. While some are working out more, others are trying to eat more healthy, and if you happen to have a busy schedule or always on the run it may be hard to do just that.

Which is why some people chose to prepare their meals ahead of time, but sometimes it can be hard to know what to put in your meals or how to start meal prepping. Local business, Meal Prep Reno, says planning is the most important part. "You just have to sit down and plan on what you are going to do so a lot of it is going to be the planning and figuring out what you are going to prepare," says Cameron Cloutier, owner of Meal Prep Reno.

Set aside a day to make a list of meals you want to make and a day to put those meals together and put them in easy to grab containers for when you are on the go. But what exactly should be in these meals? Start with some protein. "Your chicken, chicken breast, top sirloin steaks...another is fish because that also includes healthy fat," says Brian Perkins, Nutrition Consultant for Meal Prep Reno. You should also try and add some healthy carbs. "Sweet potato, brown rice, fruits, that gives you a lot of natural sugars and that is great in the morning 'cause it allows you to burn it off through out the day," says Perkins. And of course add some vegetables, such as broccoli and green beans.

Meal Prep Reno says just because you are eating healthy, it does not mean you need to get rid of some of your favorite food. It just comes down to how you prepare those foods. "Rather than frying your food, baking your food, broiling your chicken," says Perkins.

To help you stick with eating healthy and preparing those meals, Meal Prep Reno says it is best to find a partner. "The accountability partner is huge to have someone there with you and make sure you are in line the entire time," says Cloutier.
