Drag Race and Burnouts a Family Event at Hot August Nights

Posted: Updated:

It's one of Hot August Nights most popular events, “Drag Racing and Burnouts” are back at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks. Drag racers including a father and son duo are putting their pedals to the metal and showing off what their hot rods can do.

The smell of burning rubber fills the air early Wednesday morning as competitors get ready to drag race and burnout. It's a family event for spectators and for drivers Jerry Lee and his son Hoss.

They are taking it to new heights.

“You lift the front wheel in the air and you grab your two brakes and you aim for the end and you hope you get it right down the middle,” said drag racer, Hoss Lee of Sacramento.

The sixteenth of a mile long track is not too short for these pretty cars to go pretty fast. Sometimes they hit 80 miles per hour. Fast enough for Jerry and Hoss to get into some trouble.

“My dad is a hard one to follow. I'm not kidding. He does his wheelie down, he comes back and I'm lucky to get to the other end, but I'm just trying to follow a legend,” exclaimed Hoss.

Drag Racing and Burnouts continues at the Nugget in Sparks Wednesday through Saturday, from 6 p.m. - midnight. Admission is $10.
