Orangetheory Fitness Opens in Northwest Reno

Posted: Updated:

The second Orangetheory Fitness in northern Nevada opened Friday. Franchise owner, Alexis Riggs hustled to keep up with demand. "We opened in south Reno first and that had great success. And so many members - driving from the northwest - said when will you open here?  We want you in our neighborhood!" Within a year after opening her first location, she found the perfect spot for a second studio - on Robb Drive near Mae Anne Avenue.

One reason for Orangetheory's popularity is its efficiency. The hour-long workout incorporates cardio and resistance training - within certain heart rate zones. "Focusing on zones three, four and five - which are the fat-burning and aerobic zones,” explains OT Studio Manager, Sasha Ingersoll. Clients wear heart rate monitors during classes - which are coached by nine nationally-certified trainers. "You can burn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calories in a one-hour workout." The goal is to spend at least 25-minutes in the fat-burning zone and 12-24-minutes in the orange zone - to achieve EPOC. Researchers say EPOC allows your body to burn additional calories while recovering back to your normal resting state. They say high-intensity interval training is an effective way to get that after-burn which could last anywhere from 24 to 36 hours.

You can track your heart rate during the class with monitors around the room. While it adds a competitive component to class, OT coaches say the only person with whom you're competing is yourself! "You are competing against the person you were yesterday and not the person next to you, so it's great to see your progress over time."

If you are interested in Orangetheory Fitness, the first class is complimentary.
