Aetna Better Health Terminates Contract to Medicaid Patients

Posted: Updated:

Aetna Better Health Managed Care Organization says it has terminated its contract to provide health coverage to Medicaid patients. Individuals currently enrolled in Aetna Better Health will receive notification of their transition to SilverSummit Healthplan effective September 1, 2017.

All Medicaid and Nevada Check Up enrollees can continue to select a new MCO plan during the change period of July 2017 through September 2017. During the change period, recipients will be able to choose from one of the three MCOs:

  • Amerigroup Community Care 1-800-600-4441
  • Health Plan of Nevada    1-800-962-8074
  • SilverSummit Healthplan  1-844-366-2880

Additional information and MCO change forms can also be found at: http://dhcfp.nv.gov/Members/BLU/Open_Enrollment_2017/

The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy will send email notification of Aetna Better Health’s termination to all Medicaid providers.

DHCFP selected four managed care plans through the state procurement process last year. The four new plans began serving individuals July 1, 2017. “While this was not the desired outcome of all the hard work completed to expand choices to Medicaid recipients, at the end of the day it was in the best interest of all parties involved,” said Marta Jensen, Administrator for the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy.

In June, the Division of Insurance announced that Nevada’s insurance carriers that participate in the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange decided to only offer coverage to Clark, Washoe, and Nye counties beginning in 2018.

Currently three medical carriers offer plans on Nevada Health Link:

  • Anthem (The only insurance company currently selling statewide),
  • Health Plan of Nevada
  • Prominence Health Plan

If you live outside of Washoe, Clark, or Nye counties and have concerns about your coverage, Silver State Health Exchanges suggests you call them at 855-768-5465.

If you're thinking about going on a hike it's important to know the forecast, because sometimes the weather will be just too dangerous to go out, and other times the majority of the day will be dry. If you do get caught in a storm there's a few things you can do to stay safe as well.
