Red Flag Warning & Local Fire Concerns Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of Western Nevada and Northeast California from noon until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says that in western Nevada and northeast California - where the Long Valley Fire is currently burning - rapid fire growth is possible as winds are expected to reach 35-40 miles per hour.

Existing fires will possibly break containment lines as spotting and the rate of fire spread increases.

Areas downwind of the Long Valley Fire and the MM 155 Fire are advised that strong winds could rapidly push the fire close to local communities. Please listen to all evacuation orders and remain ready to leave at a moment's notice.

Winds combined with the low humidity can cause active fires to grow in size and intensity, even breaking fire lines.

Avoid any outdoor activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
