The U.S. Forest Service says the 747-acre Farad Fire near the Nevada-California state line is now 100% contained.

The fire started just after 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 10th near I-80 and the California state line. Traffic was impacted significantly during the first 24 hours of the firefight. No evacuations were issued and while seven structures were threatened in the Gold Ranch and Verdi Peak area, none were lost.

On Saturday July 15th, handcrews will be mopping up the fire and working on damaged powerline poles. On Sunday, July 16th the Type 4 Incident Commander will continue to be monitored using air resources.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Utilities Impacted:

The U.S. Forest Service says repair work has started on the section of powerline damaged by the fire. Liberty Utilities will set approximately ten new poles along the line using a helicopter. The damaged powerline affects about 40 customers near the Floriston area. There's no estimate on restoration.
