The Garson Fire has burned about 141 acres in grass and sage off Garson Road since starting Sunday near Boomtown. The Reno Fire Department says the fire is 60% contained and expect to have it fully contained on Friday.

Firefighters say it was started by target shooters.

The Reno Police Department says more than a dozen homes were threatened, but none have been damaged so far.

The Reno Fire Department has assumed command of the fire. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and the Nevada Department of Forestry are assisting.

People are asked to avoid the area.

NDF crews have stationed on the west side of Interstate 80 to monitor the fire's progress. NDOT says drivers traveling west on the freeway can expect heavy smoke.

NDF crews saved a fawn from the burn area that's now in the care of the Nevada Division of Wildlife.
