Damonte Ranch Senior Wins New Car

Posted: Updated:

"I just won a new car," said Marc Burks, who graduated from Damonte Ranch High School last week. "I didn't expect it at all."

Burks won a new car for his perfect attendance during his senior year of high school.

Bill Pearce Courtesy Honda has been giving away a new car to seniors with perfect attendance for the last nine years. This year, more than 170 graduating seniors were eligible to win.

"My chances are like one in 170, so I was like 'ehh..that's pretty low,'" he said.

“We are proud to support our high school students who committed to achieving perfect attendance during their senior year,” said Sandy Raffealli, owner of Bill Pearce Courtesy Honda. “We think it’s a great way to help a student celebrate graduation and begin life as an adult. This is our favorite event of the whole year.”

Burks even went to school on Senior Ditch Day.

"I was going to go to school everyday anyway, although I was really tempted on Senior Ditch Day not to go," he said. "My physics teacher also kept me motivated to go school every single day because you can't miss a day of physics because it gets bad if you do."

Even though Burks was close to not attending Saturday's event, he is thankful his mom forced him to attend the giveaway. After all, you must be present to win.

Burks will attend the University of Nevada Las Vegas in the fall to study engineering.
