New Breast Center in South Reno

Posted: Updated:

There is a new place in town to help women stay on top of their breast health. The Summit Surgery Center at Saint Mary's Galena now houses a one-stop shop for wellness and preventative care.

Along with 3-D mammography, "We also have ultrasound technique, MRI, CT scanners. So, this is the area women would come for the preventative diagnostic measures,” explains Medical Director Dr. Shelli Tiller. After navigating her mother's breast cancer diagnosis, she has worked tirelessly to stream-line treatment for patients. "We want to have preventative medicine for people, but if you get to the point where something goes wrong and you have to go to the surgical side of things - that's where my portion comes in." From biopsies to outpatient surgery, "We're trying to promote privacy; ease of access.”

You will see the same familiar faces in a private, intimate setting. From Reno's only fellowship-trained breast imager, Dr. Chivonne Harrigal, to two regionally-trained anesthesiologists who perform Pecs block – which is like an epidural for your chest region. “I'm targeting the nerves that are coming out that are covering most of the breast," shares Dr. Jimmie Tan. It helps patients manage pain before and after a surgical procedure and can last upwards of 24 hours. "We want these women as comfortable as possible afterward; so less pain, less chance of nausea, quicker recovery, home sooner." Combined under one roof, you will find specialists and state-of-the-art techniques to more easily manage what is often an overwhelming diagnosis.

You can check out the new Breast Center yourself during a public grand opening on Thursday, June 8th from noon to 6 p.m. The Saint Mary's Galena Campus is located at 18653 Wedge Parkway in south Reno. To learn more, call (775) 674-5200.
