The Nevada Department of Transportation is seeking public input on potential safety improvements for U.S. 50 between the State Route 28 Spooner junction and the state line at Lake Tahoe.

A public information meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at the Zephyr Cove Elementary School at 226 Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove, with an informational presentation held at 5:30 p.m.

Currently, many sections of the road are two lanes in each direction, without designated turn lanes for drivers to turn to and from residences and businesses along the highway. NDOT says to enhance traffic safety and mobility, concepts for repaving and restriping the highway with new lane configurations will be presented, including the potential of additional turn lanes and parking on certain segments of road. One potential concept could restripe the highway with one travel lane in each direction, as well as a center turn lane. Designated traffic roundabouts and bike lanes are also proposed for certain sections of the road. The improvements could potentially be constructed as part of future repaving projects.
