The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says an off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy was on his way home from work at approximately 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning when he spotted an SUV that fit the description of a car that had been reported stolen from the Hobey’s parking lot in Sun Valley the night before.

The deputy reported his sighting and a short time later responding on duty deputies located the car in the area of Sun Valley Boulevard and Rampion Way. When deputies tried to stop the car, the driver fled.

A short while later, the suspect crashed the SUV on West Leonesio Drive just south of Dandini Boulevard and then ran away.

Patrol deputies, assisted by Sheriff’s Office Motor and K9 units, quickly established a perimeter and the suspect was taken into custody a short time later.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Mitchell Howard Dzik.

Dzik was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges including Grand Larceny of an Automobile, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Failure to Obey a Peace Officer Endangering Others, and Reckless Driving.
