Aces Release

5/11/2017

The Reno Aces battled the New Orleans Baby Cakes Thursday night at Greater Nevada Field to begin an eight-game homestand. D-backs number one prospect Anthony Banda got the start, his seventh of the 2017 campaign. The left-hander allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings. The loss brings Banda to a record of 3-2 and raises his ERA to 4.17 on the season.

Offensively, Reno got into the scoring column in the first inning. Oswaldo Arcia blasted his eighth home run of the season off Baby Cakes starter Scott Copeland. Arcia entered this evening’s contest in second place in the Pacific Coast League RBI race with 35. Christian Walker finished with two RBI tonight, tying him with Arcia at 36.

New Orleans responded in the third and fourth inning with two runs apiece. A leadoff single by Copeland set the table for Isaac Galloway with no outs. Galloway launched a two-run home run off of the video board in left field to give the Baby Cakes their first lead of the evening. Three hits in the fourth inning would tack on two more, extending the New Orleans lead to 4-1. In the bottom half of the fourth, Jack Reinheimer doubled on a sharp line drive to left field scoring the recently added Jeremy Hazelbaker.

The Baby Cakes would then find a source of power, blasting back-to-back solo shots in the top of the eighth inning off of reliever Silvino Bracho. Rubby De La Rosa made his Reno debut but was tagged for a home run in the seventh inning. As a team, New Orleans would set their team-high in homers for the season with four.

The loss brings Reno to a record of 20-13, keeping the squad in first place in the Pacific Northern Division.
