Nevada Release

In a game that saw a hard-fought battle from the Wolf Pack, the Nevada women’s basketball team fell to UC Irvine on Thursday evening, 72-59. The Pack (4-3) were led by its junior point guard T Moe, who tied her season-high with a team-best 18 points.

The matchup between the Pack and the Anteaters (1-6) began with Moe knocking down the first basket of the game to give Nevada an early 3-0 lead. Moe would end up scoring six of the team’s first nine points after she connected with her second three-pointer of the night.

After UC Irvine tied the score, sophomore forward Terae Briggs laid in her first basket of the game with 57 seconds left in the quarter, giving the Pack a 16-14 lead heading into the second period. Briggs’ score marked the sixth made basket for Nevada, which shot 50 percent from the field in the opening quarter.

With 6:07 remaining in the second quarter, Moe hit her third shot from beyond the arc, extending the Pack’s lead to 25-21, forcing UC Irvine to call its first timeout of the game. The three-pointer gave Moe 11 points at that moment, which became the fourth time this season she has hit double-figures in a game.

The Anteaters kept the score close throughout the opening half, as both teams traded off with the lead, but not before Briggs connected on her second basket of the night with 58 seconds left in the quarter. Her score gave Nevada a 33-32 lead heading into the locker room, which was the fifth time this season that the Pack has led at halftime.

In the third quarter, UC Irvine began to pull away, leading for most of the period. However, Nevada fought back to keep itself in the game, as a pair of free throws from Moe and a basket from Briggs, cut the Anteaters’ lead to 48-44 entering the fourth quarter. Briggs would finish with eight points and nine rebounds on the night.

With the score still in reach for Nevada, UC Irvine opened the final period with a 11-0 run to extend its lead to 15 points. The Pack didn’t give in though, as the team responded with a 6-0 run of their own, capped off by a basket from sophomore guard Riana Everidge.

Moe recorded her fourth and final three-point basket of the game, which marked a new career-high and brought UC Irvine’s lead to just nine points with 3:04 left. The Anteaters knocked in a few more key baskets down the stretch however to secure the win.

The Pack will be back in Lawlor Events center, when Nevada hosts Utah on Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. PT.
