Washoe County Search And Rescue Crews Locate Missing 70 Year-Old Hiker

Posted: Updated:

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team has found a 70 year-old woman who went missing on a hike Tuesday afternoon.

Bob Harmon with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office tells us the woman was dropped off at Flume Trail, just above the Mt. Rose Outlook around 2 p.m.

When her husband returned at 5 p.m. to pick her up, she was nowhere to be found and wasn’t answering her cell phone.

Washoe County Search and Rescue responded to the area and located the hiker around 9 p.m. She was found safe with no injuries.

Harmon tells us it appeared the woman got separated from the trail, and her cell phone had died.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind you that you should hike with a companion. However if you do hike alone, you should make sure someone knows where you are and when you are expected to return. In addition you should make sure your cell phone is charged. And if you do get lost, stay put and call for help, sheriffs say the farther you wander the harder it is to find you.
